In terms of achievements we can surely highlight all our honours in winning league and knock-out titles.

Apart from that, our club was on two occasions voted, "club of the year"

in the CAPE TOWN/TYGERBERG FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION of which we are an affiliated member.

Garden Village Football Club of the Cape Town Tygerberg Football Association celebrates its 88th anniversary this year.

This proud old club which was founded in Garden Village, Maitland in 1926 has played under the auspices of the old Western Province Football Association for most of its existence.

Garden Village AFC was the home of many prominent football administrators and players who are still active in football today. Sadly many of the older officials have long passed on.

Officials such as Ikey Gamba Snr, George Williams, David Noble, Michael Rossouw, George Windvogel, Neville vander Merwe, Mr W. Kennedy,  Mr A Sinclair,  Trevor Hass and Peter Jacobs, spring to mind as dedicated officials and players.

Remember names such as Roley Trout, Brian Schuller, Herman Moses, Twiggy Peterson (all ex professionals) and Jimmy Anderson (then "coloured" team eleven goalkeeper) were all from the Garden Village Football club stable.

Then we get those who emerged from the juniors ranks and who also turned professional, players such as Faried De Goede, Neville Londt, Dennis Bantom, Attie Hurling and Donnie King.

Garden Village AFC achievements during its rich and proud history are numerous and the present generation of players and officials can  still recall those glorious moments of the past with great pleasure.

Perhaps the greatest season for the club those years was in 1937, when  the under 18 team, the Third team, the Second team and First team each, made a clean sweep of League and Knock Out trophies in the then Western Province Football Association.

Three years later in 1940 the club’s First team walked off with both League and Knock Out trophies.

During the war years, the Garden Village, like many other clubs battled to keep going, with many officials and players, fighting  the germans up north.

Yet, those remaining at the helm kept the club going and after a season in the second division Garden Village Football Club was soon back at its fighting best  in the "premier" division.

Players who kept the Garden Village Football Club banner fluttering in post war years included men such as Fred Brown, Alfie “Cannon” Pienaar, Attie and Davie Noble and Jack Bates.

One must also mentioned that one of the club’s most outstanding goalkeepers of that period was Adam “Tassie” Godfrey.

In the 50s and 60s Garden Village Football Club continued to reap in the laurels and in the year 1953 the club won the League Trophy.

In 1967 and 1968 they were runners up for League honours and in 1969  the First team won the League Trophy again.

In 1970 another great year  for the club, when Garden Village Football Club won both the Grand Challenge and Knock Out trophies and also the prestigeous Maggot Trophy.

Most of those players turned professional to represent either Glenville or Cape Town Spurs, who represented Cape Town in the Federation Pro League

In the 80s Garden Village Football Club continued its proud saga, with members such as Ralph and Lionel vander Schyff, Philip and Brian Pienaar, Arnold Galant, George and Jimmy Anderson, Victor Wynguard, Shero Pathon, Tubby Martin,  Selwyn Africa, Clive Lewin, Cecil Bell, John Davids, Gedult Jones, Tony King and our chairman the late Peter Jacobs.

In 1985 the club's ladies team, which was formed in 1984, won the Knock-Out in WPFA Ladies League.

A player that emerged from that team was Bonita Hendricks who went on to represented Garden Village in a WPFA board team.

With the same commitment and zeal which earned this proud club such and enviable reputation over the years, the club  entered nine teams for the 1986/7 season and have continued to do this, until this day.

Players such as Gavin Fredericks, Deon Hatzenberg, Deon vander Schyff, Basil Esau, Trevor Haas and Victor Wynguard made our club proud producing good disciplined football that challenged teams such as Norway Parks, Saxon Rovers and Factreton Utd. during the 80's, winning the WPFA "Day of Football" tournament.

Many a member would be put out by the chairman for not being properly attired and many would be disciplined for not being paid up in subs. Discipline was the order of the day, for those who choose to wear the Green and White colours of Garden Village Football Club.
